How to Push Workouts to Your Garmin Device
All Reddiyo workouts can be performed indoors or out and if you have a Garmin device, completing your workouts is more convenient than ever.
Reddiyo automatically sends your workouts to your Garmin Connect account. In just a few steps you can sync your workouts to your Garmin device. (Most modern Garmin devices support this functionality.)
Performing workouts on your device means you don’t have to track anything. Just jump on the bike and ride. Your device will tell you exactly what zone you should be in and when to switch for each interval. You can set your preference for heart rate or power zones in Reddiyo. We default to heart rate so if you’ve got a power meter, be sure to switch that over. Read on for step by step instructions.
Send a Reddiyo Workout to Your Garmin Device
-
Open the Garmin Connect App on your phone. If you don’t have it then you need to install it and log in.
-
Ensure that the phone is paired to your Garmin device over Bluetooth. If Bluetooth isn’t available then using Garmin Express will work as well. The rest of this tutorial assumes that you are connected via Bluetooth.
-
Open the Navigation Menu
- iPhone - Tap “More” on the bottom right.
- Android - Tap the menu button on the top left.
-
Tap the “Training” Item (figure 1).
-
Tap the “Workouts” Item.
-
At this point, you should see all the workouts that are available from Reddiyo sorted by date. Choose the one that you are going to perform (figure 2).
-
Tap the phone icon on the top right (figure 3). This should load the workout on your device. You may need to sync your device again.
If your workout does not appear on your device after syncing it could be that your memory is full. Make sure to delete workouts periodically to ensure that there is room for new workouts.
Perform a Workout on Your Garmin Device
Once the workout has been loaded onto your device you are ready to go! All you have to do is tell the device to do that workout. Every Garmin device can be slightly different but these instructions should give you enough information to perform the workout (we used an Edge 520).
-
Turn on your Garmin device
-
Go to the main menu
-
Open the “Training” tab
-
Open the “Workouts” tab
-
Find your workout and select “Do Workout”
At this point, you are good to go! The workout has been loaded. On most Garmin devices you will need to click the play button to start and stop the workout.
Change Export Preferences for Workouts Sent to Garmin
If you already have your Garmin Connect account connected to Reddiyo then it is very easy to change your export preferences directly within the Reddiyo app. Heart rate is the default export preference but you can easily change it by following these steps.
-
Open the Reddiyo app.
-
Open the main menu.
-
Tap “Apps & Devices.”
-
Select your zone preference.
Once you have completed this step then all future exports will use this preference.
Manually Push a Workout Up to Garmin Connect
If you would like to change your zone preference for a specific workout or push a workout up to Garmin Connect before Reddiyo does so automatically, you can manually push a workout.
-
Open the Reddiyo app and find the workout you would like to send to Garmin Connect in your schedule.
-
Click on the export icon (bottom right).
-
Select the type of zones you prefer to use for this workout (heart rate or power) and tap the “Send to Garmin Connect Button.”
If you do not see the option to push your workout up to Garmin Connect, make sure you have synced your Garmin Connect account with Reddiyo on the Apps & Devices screen.
If you are not able to specify your zone preference for the workout, it is likely because we do not have an FTP value for you. In this case so we default to heart rate zones. Power zones are set based on your FTP so if you would like to use them, you can enter your FTP on the profile screen under FTP/LT in the drop down. After you have entered your FTP revisit the workout you would like to push up. You should see the heart rate and power zone options.
After you have pushed the workout to Garmin Connect, you can load it to your device as described previously.
