Indoor Cycling Workouts with Your Garmin and Smart Trainer
By Reddiyo Team
Reddiyo provides some of the most effective structured cycling workouts available today. These workouts are built specifically for you and your goals and can be performed several ways.
Many users performing workouts indoors will use software like Zwift or Rouvy to perform their rides and control their trainers. While performing your workouts directly on Zwift or Rouvy is supported by Reddiyo you can also use Garmin's structured workouts. This feature allows for the same control over your trainer by using just your bike computer. Reddiyo already automatically sends your workouts to your Garmin Connect account. All you need to do is push the workout to your bike computer, pair it with your trainer, and then perform the workout on your device. From there the bike computer will control your resistance and ensure that you are hitting your targets. Follow the steps below to try it out.
Note: Garmin Edge bike computers of model number 520 or higher should allow for bike trainer control. The steps below are for the Edge 520. Other models should be similar.
Push your structured workout directly to your bike computer from your Garmin Connect app. The steps are very simple but if you need a refresher then read this post.
Ensure that your trainer is connected to your bike computer.
Note: If you have a separate power meter on your bike we find it is best to manually disconnect it. Having both a power meter and a smart trainer connected has been shown to produce slightly less reliable results.
Click the down button from the main screen and select the Training page of your bike computer.
Select the Indoor Trainer item from the list.
Note: If this results in a blank screen or “no indoor trainer connection” then you need to ensure that your bike trainer is connected to your computer
Select the Follow a Workout item in the list.
Choose the Workout that you want to perform.
Select Do Workout
At this point you are ready to go. All your zones are already set and as you progress through the workout the resistance will change.
